The nature of this world is that people don’t know what their real benefit can be. Srila Bhaktisidhanta Saraswati Thakur used to sign letters saying “your ever well wisher”. Srila Prabhupada, Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaj, also signed in that way. And it is true, these persons are our ever well wishers. They would only think of our benefit. One astrologer told about Srila Sridhar Maharaj “he will do good for others but he won’t do good for himself.” Meaning he is not interested in something that will benefit himself. No self interest. looking for one’s own interest. Not trying to get some acquisition from anything. This is what I have found with our divine spiritual masters; they are always interested in what will help us. I feel myself fortunate to have had that kind of association because our best interest is in the heart of a saint. Try to see if you can find some place in a saint’s heart. It is not enough just to think “oh who is the true qualified spiritual master?”. It is not enough that you will accept the spiritual master. You must be accepted by the spiritual master. It is one thing to find who is a sat guru, a true spiritual master and another thing is to find a place in the heart of that saint. That is what we are trying for.
